“Made in Qatar” nos enseña una pizca del trabajo de cineastas basados en Qatar. Esta selección de cortometrajes muestra nuestro creciente talento local, incluyendo películas hechas a través del Instituto de Iniciativas de Aprendizaje del Doha Film Institute y otras producciones independientes hechas por Qataríes y por aquellos que han hecho un hogar en Qatar. Para esta colaboración con LATINARAB 2014, hemos curado conjuntamente un programa especial que permite echar un vistazo al festival de cine joven Ajyal que se realiza anualmente, en el que películas hechas por y sobre jóvenes se exhiben para cientos de jóvenes jurados alrededor del mundo. Proyectar esas películas en Argentina es una extensión de la creciente colaboración entre ambos países y abre una ventana cultural a través de la que el público argentino puede descubrir cómo la gente del golfo da sus primeros pasos como cineastas.

“Made in Qatar” shines a light on the work of Qatar-based filmmakers. This selection of short films showcases our emerging home-grown talent, including films made through the Doha Film Institute’s Learning Initiatives, alongside independent productions by Qataris and those who call Qatar home. For this collaboration with LATINARAB 2014, we have jointly curated a special programme that provides a glimpse of the annual Ajyal Youth Film Festival, where films for and about young people are seen by hundreds of young jurors from all the over the world. Showing these Qatari films in Argentina is an extension of the growing partnership between our two countries, and provides a cultural window through which the Argentinean audience may discover how people from the Gulf take their first steps into making films.

EYE & MERMAID La pequeña Hanan de diez años vive en un pueblo pesquero en la costa de la Península Arábiga. Ha deseado desde siempre acompañar a su pare en sus viajes de pesca nocturnos, pero él no quiere que ella lo haga. Por la mañana, siempre vuelve con maravillosas perlas negras. Pero: ¿De dónde vienen? ¿Esconde su padre un secreto? Inquietantemente Hermosa y brutalmente metafórica, Eye & Mermaid es un perturbador recordatorio de que por las cosas lindas de la vida se puede pagar un costo muy alto ─ uno que no estamos preparados a admitir. / Ten-year-old Hanan lives in a fishing village on the coast of the Arabian Peninsula. She has always wanted to join her father on his night-time fishing trips, but he doesn't want her to come along. In the morning, he always returns with wonderful black pearls, but where do they come from? Does he harbor a secret? Hauntingly beautiful and brutally metaphorical, Eye and Mermaid is an unsettling reminder that the lovely things in life may come at a hefty cost - one we are not prepared to acknowledge.

MY HERO Un niño que idolatra a su padre encuentra una forma ingeniosa de pasar más tiempo con él. / A young boy who idolises his busy father devises a clever way to spend more time with him.

HERO AND THE MESSAGE Hero and the Message es la historia de Mohamed y Lulua, dos hermanos que viajan en el tiempo con la ayuda de un tren ultra tecnológico y se envuelven en eventos clave de la historia Qatarí. La película se estrenó en Qatar durante el 18 de diciembre de 2012, el día nacional de Qatar.la animación también fue presentada en la televisión Qatarí, cines y proyecciones especiales, incluyendo una en el Museo de Arte Islámico en Doha y Katara. / Hero and The Message is the story of Mohammad and Lulua, two siblings who travel in time with the help of an ultra high-tech train and get involved in key events of Qatari history. The movie premiered during the 2012 Qatar National Day, on December 18. The animation was also presented on Qatari television, in cinemas, and during special screenings, including one at the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha and Katara.
