A never-ending waiting room in Berlin is the setting of Palestinian director Kamal Aljafari’s short. Immigrants from all over the -globalized and broken- world coexist as they wait for something which is now lost on them. The tower of Babel of the 21st century has also crumbled down and the punishment seems to be the bureaucratic condemnation of being undocumented. Is it a Kafkian nightmare or a Beckett-type limbo? As in his last experimental work Recollection (2015), Aljafari uses post-production techniques to, by way of a simple digital retouch, build a strong reflection on society. “People become objectified and objects become humanized”, said Marx -a few capitalisms back-. Kamal Aljafari nació en Palestina en 1972 y vive en Berlín. Trabaja con imágenes en movimiento y fijas, entretejiendo ficción, no ficción y arte. Sus películas anteriores incluyen Recollection (2015), Port of Memory (2009) y The Roof (2006). Fue artista invitado en el Robert Flaherty Film Seminar (NYC) y miembro del Radcliffe Institute and Film Study Center de la Universidad de Harvard.
Kamal Aljafari, born in Palestine in 1972, lives in Berlin. He works with moving and still images, interweaving fiction, non-fiction, and art. Kamal’s past films include Recollection (2015), Port of Memory (2009), and The Roof (2006). He was a featured artist at the Robert Flaherty Film Seminar (NYC) and was a Fellow at Harvard University’s Radcliffe Institute and Film Study Center.
