LAW OF LAMB | LA LEY DEL CORDERO

Única película africana seleccionada para la Palme d’Or en la competencia de cortometrajes del Festival de Cannes, Law of Lamb fue filmada en la misma región que La guerra de las galaxias. En un desierto árido de Túnez, un abuelo y su nieto están transportando ovejas. De repente, se encuentran con dos policías, que oscilan entre la benevolencia y la sospecha. Es difícil adivinar sus intenciones. De ahí se desarrolla un ambiente de rareza preocupante, latoso, entre la lucha psicológica y el humor negro. El director, Lotfi Achour, supo combinar un guión perfectamente pensado con una estética impecable para su primer “western couscous”.

Law of Lamb, only African film to be selected to compete for the Short Film Palme d’Or in the Cannes Film Festival, was filmed in the same region as Star Wars. In a barren Tunisian desert, an old man and his grandson are moving sheep. Suddenly, they run into two policemen, who swing from benevolence to suspicion. It is difficult to presume their intentions. Thereon, an atmosphere of disturbing and exasperating eccentricity is built, oscillating between psychological struggle and black humour. The director, Lotfi Achour, has been able to combine a perfectly thought out script with a sleek aesthetic on his first “couscous western.”

LOTFI ACHOUR

Actor, autor, director de cine y de teatro dividiendo su tiempo entre París y Túnez, Lotfi Achour es el autor de más de 25 creaciones en distintos escenarios en Londres, París, Aviñón, El Líbano, Jordania, Egipto y Kinshasa. Con formación teatral en la Sorbonne y en realización de documentales en los Ateliers Varan en París, realizó cuatro cortometrajes, seleccionados y premiados en Clermont-Ferrand, Tokyo, Dubai, Abu Dhabi y Nueva York. En 2016, termina dos películas: el largometraje Esperanzas en llamas y su quinto cortometraje, Law of Lamb, seleccionado para la edición 69 del Festival de Cannes.

Lotfi Achour is an actor, writer, filmmaker, and theatre director who divides his time between Paris and Tunisia. He has authored more than 25 theatre productions on different stages in London, Paris, Avignon, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, and Kinshasa, among others. He studied theatre at the Sorbonne University and documentary filmmaking at the Ateliers Varan workshops in Paris. He directed four short films that were selected for screening and awarded prizes in Clermont-Ferrand, Tokyo, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and New York. In 2016, he completed two films: his feature film Burning Hope and his fifth short film Law of Lamb, selected at the 69th Cannes Film Festival.
