THOSE WHO REMAIN | QUIENES QUEDAN
En una 茅poca de exilio masivo, pocos son los que se quedan. En la regi贸n de Accar en El L铆bano, a algunos kil贸metros de la frontera con Siria, Haykal, un campesino cristiano, sigue luchando por su tierra y su tradici贸n. Es ah铆 donde trabaja incansablemente y donde eligi贸 construir una granja y un restaurante. A trav茅s del di谩logo conmovedor entre la directora Eliane Raheb y Haykal surge una reflexi贸n sobre la dureza de la vida cotidiana de aquellos que eligieron quedarse. Las condiciones de la agricultura, los conflictos confesionales, las marcas de la guerra civil y las repercusiones de la crisis en Siria ponen la fuerza y la resistencia de sus pocos habitantes a prueba todos los d铆as. Para su segundo documental, Eliane Raheb graba con intimidad y habilidad los miedos, los recuerdos y los sue帽os de una poblaci贸n que no se siente atrapada, sino feliz de seguir viviendo en su tierra.

In a time of massive exile only few remain. In the Accar region in Lebanon, a few kilometres from the Syrian border, Haykal, a Christian farmer, continues to fight for his land and his tradition. There, he works tirelessly and has decided to build a farm and a restaurant. From the moving dialogue between the director Eliane Raheb and Haykal comes out a reflection upon the hardship of the everyday life of those who have chosen to stay. The strength and resistance of the inhabitants of the region are put to the test daily under the pressures of the agriculturing conditions, the confessional conflicts, the scars left by the civil war and the reverberation of the crisis in Syria. In her second documentary, Eliane Raheb manages to intimately and gracefully capture the fears, the memories, and the dreams of a population who do not feel entrapped, but happy to remain in their land.

Eliane Raheb dirigi贸 dos cortometrajes y diversos documentales, entre los que se encuentra This is Lebanon (2008), ganador del Premio a la Excelencia en el Festival Internacional de Cine Documental de Yamagata y emitido por ARTE/ZDF. Su largometraje documental Sleepless Nights (2012) se proyect贸 en cuarenta festivales de cine y recibi贸 numerosos premios. Raheb es una de los miembros fundadores de las asociaciones de cine Beirut DC y de ITAR Productions.
Eliane Raheb has directed two short films and several documentaries. This is Lebanon (2008) received the Excellency Award at the Yamagata Film Festival and was broadcasted on ARTE/ZDF. Her feature documentary Sleepless Nights (2012) toured fourty film festivals and has won several awards. Raheb is a founding member of the cinema association, Beirut DC and ITAR Productions.
