LA VIRGEN, LOS COPTOS Y YO | THE VIRGIN, THE COPTS AND ME

Un buen día, Namir Abdel Messeeh, un cineasta de origen egipcio, ve un vídeo de la aparición de la Virgen María en Egipto con su madre que, como millones de coptos, ve a la Virgen en la pantalla a pesar de que él no. Namir decide regresar a Egipto para rodar una película acerca de las apariciones, pero se topa con un sinfín de obstáculos. El resultado es un documental de ficción lleno de humor que describe el enfrentamiento familiar, generacional, religioso y cultural en la diáspora egipcia, el séptimo arte y la creatividad sin límites de los cineastas.

Namir is a French filmmaker of Egyptian origin. One day he watches a videotape of the Virgin Mary’s apparition in Egypt with his mother who, like millions of other Copts (Egypt’s Christians), sees the Virgin on the screen while he sees nothing. Skeptical about the videotape, Namir travels back to Egypt, to make a film about the bizarre occurrence of these apparitions. However, he will encounter endless hurdles, the result of which is a fictional documentary charged with humour that describes family, generational, religious, and cultural clash among the Egyptian Diaspora, the seventh Art and the limitless creativity of filmmakers.

Nacido en Egipto en 1947, Namir Abdel Messeeh creció en Francia. Estudió Dirección de Cine en la escuela La Fémis en París, y se tituló de magíster en Estudios Cinematográficos en la Université Paris Diderot. Entre sus películas se encuentran los cortometrajes Toi, Waguih y Quelque chose de mal —ambos dirigidos en 2005.

Born in Egypt in 1974, Namir Abdel Messeeh grew up in France. He studied film directing at the French national film school La Fémis in Paris, and he obtained an MA in cinema studies from the University of Paris VII. His films include the shorts You, Waguih and Quelque chose de mal (Something Evil), both in 2005.
