A PRESENT FROM THE PAST | UN REGALO DEL PASADO

Mokhtar, un profesor de Cine, recibe un regalo inesperado en su cumpleaños número 75 de parte de su hija, Kawthar, una cineasta en sus veinticortos. Con dos pasajes de avión a Roma, uno para él y otro para ella, él tiene una segunda oportunidad para buscar a su amor no realizado: Patrizia, una italiana a quien abandonó 33 años atrás so promesa de volver por ella. Kawthar filmó la experiencia con cámaras escondidas y utilizó videos caseros para capturar la verdadera esencia de su relación padre/hija, que fluctúa a lo largo del viaje.

Mokhtar, a filmmaking professor, receives an unexpected present on his 75th birthday from his daughter Kawthar, a filmmaker in her early twenties. With two plane tickets to Rome, one for him and another for his daughter, he has a second chance to search for his unfulfilled love —Patrizia, an Italian woman whom he abandoned 33 years ago with a promise to come back for her. Kawthar filmed the experience with hidden cameras and used home videos to capture the real essence of their father/daughter relationship, which fluctuates throughout the trip.

Nacida en 1993 en El Cairo, Kawthar estudió Dirección de Cine en el Instituto Superior de Cine de Egipto. Su proyecto de corto A Story of Everyday ganó el primer premio en la Civic Engagement Competition en la Universidad Americana de Egipto en 2011.
Un regalo del pasado es su proyecto de graduación del Instituto y su primer largometraje documental.

Born in 1993 in Cairo, Kawthar studied film directing at High Cinema Institute of Egypt. Her short project A story of Everyday won the first prize in the Civic Engagement Competition at the American University of Egypt 2011.
A Present from the Past is her graduation project from the Institute and her first feature documentary.
