IN THE LAST DAYS OF THE CITY | EN LOS ÚLTIMOS DÍAS DE LA CIUDAD La búsqueda de un departamento con techos altos, el encuentro con la mujer amada antes de que se vaya para siempre, las visitas al hospital donde descansa mamá, el abrazo al amigo que vuelve a Beirut o Bagdad o Berlín: todas formas del adiós para Khalid, fragmentos de la despedida a una ciudad que pronto será otra, irreconocible y ajena. El Cairo, en ese invierno de 2009, está a punto de estallar aunque nadie lo sepa todavía; aunque la agitación callejera tenga más que ver con partidos de fútbol y demoliciones de edificios que con el descontento social que llevará a la Plaza Tahrir. El malestar, en todo caso, toma la forma de la incertidumbre, de una rara nostalgia del futuro y la melancolía de comprobar que las ciudades, como las personas, cambian pero siguen siendo las mismas.

The search for an apartment with high ceilings; a meeting with the woman he loves right before she leaves forever; visits to a hospital where his mom is resting; a hug with a friend who is returning from Beirut, or Bagdad, or Berlin: for Khalid, these are all forms of goodbye, fragments of his farewell to a city that will soon change and become unrecognizable, and strange. In the winter of 2009, Cairo is about to explode even if no one knows it yet; even if the street riots are more connected with soccer matches and building demolitions than the social unrest that will lead to Tahrir Square. The unease, in any case, will take the shape of uncertainty, a weird nostalgia for the future, and the melancholy of realizing that cities, like people, change and yet remain the same.

Tamer El Said es un director que nació en 1972 en El Cairo, ciudad en que reside actualmente. Estudió Dirección de Cine en el Instituto Superior de Cine de El Cairo y Periodismo en la Universidad de El Cairo. Realizó varios documentales y cortometrajes que recibieron numerosos premios tanto nacionales como internacionales. Con el fin de producir cine independiente fundó Zero Production en el año 2007. Junto con otros colegas, creó Cinematheque: - Alternative Film Centre in Egypt (Centro alternativo de cine en Egipto). Los  últimos días de la ciudad es su primer largometraje.
Tamer El Said is a filmmaker living in Cairo where he was born in 1972. He studied filmmaking at the High Cinema Institute of Cairo and journalism at Cairo University. He went on to make many documentaries and short films that received several international and local awards. Tamer founded Zero Production in 2007 to produce independent films. He also founded, along with others, Cimatheque - Alternative Film Centre in Egypt. In the Last Days of the City is his first full-length film.
