Hal is a poet. Moun is a chess teacher. Both are Arabic Americans living in Brooklyn. A particular chemistry sparks between these women in search of a sense of belonging. “Where are you from?” they ask each other. What at first sight looks like a debate between the different meanings of the word “home” turns very quickly into a love story in which sexuality and territory are key players on a chess board. The director Darine Hotait challenges the limits of conservatism with delicate elegance and metaphors. She also glimpses a concept of identity that is elastic, poetic and ever-changing. Only in this way, from a world without attachments, I Say Dust surrenders to the power of words.

Escribió y dirigió varios cortometrajes que ganaron premios prestigiosos en festivales de cine internacionales. Es la fundadora de Cinephilia Productions, una productora de cine independiente en Nueva York que produce ficciones. Actualmente, se encuentra trabajando en su primera película de ciencia ficción. Vive en Nueva York.

Darine Hotait (1985, Beirut) is an American Lebanese writer and film director. She has written and directed a number of short films that went on to win prestigious awards at international film festivals. She is the founder of Cinephilia Productions, a New York-based independent film production house producing narrative content. She is currently working on her debut science fiction feature film. She resides in New York City.
