SINOPSIS

Una solterona en sus treintas vive con su madre, una enfermera, y su padre cuyo mundo se limita en su mayoría a sí mismo luego de haber sufrido un accidente cerebral. Ella no trabaja; se queda en casa para cuidar de su padre. La dinámica familiar se nos irá desenvolviendo minuto a minuto: La alimentación y la limpieza de este padre apático, las frustraciones entre madre e hija, la visita incómoda de un familiar… Finalmente, el intento vacilante de la hija de comprometerse con una vida más suya parece conducir a un resultado funesto.

A spinster in her mid thirties lives with her mum, a nurse, and her father ─who is mostly unaware of the world after a stroke he suffered. She doesn’t work; she stays home to take care of him. Through minute actions, the family dynamic slowly unravels: the feeding and cleaning after the apathic father, frustrations between the daughter and mother, an awkward visit of a relative. A hesitant attempt of the daughter to engage with a life that might be more her own seems to lead to a disastrous outcome.

BIOGRAFÍA

Hala, nacida en 1973, es una cineasta egipcia licenciada en economía y ciencias políticas y que luego estudió cinematografía en el Instituto de Cine de El Cairo. Trabajó como asistente de dirección en el ámbito comercial durante dos años antes de decidir que no era ese su lugar. Hizo documentales y trabajó con el canal Aljazeera en la serie Árabes de América Latina. En 2007, comenzó la producción de su primer largometraje de ficción Coming Forth by Day de manera independiente, utilizando sus ahorros y una pequeña subvención posteriormente en 2008. El proyecto fue suspendido por algún tiempo y se reanudó luego de la revolución. En 2010, con la ayuda de los socios de Coming Forth by Day, Hala creó Hassala Films.

Hala is an Egyptian filmmaker born in 1973 who studied Economics and Political Science and graduated from Cairo University and studied filmmaking at the Cairo Film Institute. She worked as an assistant director in the commercial field for two years before deciding it was not the place she belongs to. She has made three documentaries independently and worked with Aljazeera developing a series called Arabs of Latin America. In 2007 she began producing her long feature debut Coming Forth by Day totally independently using her savings and a small grant afterwards, in 2008. The project was halted for a moment, but was resumed after the revolution. In 2010, with the help of the partners of Coming Forth by Day, Hala composed Hassala Films.
