THE MAN INSIDE

Más de dos décadas después de la muerte de su padre, un cineasta europeo intenta construir una conexión con el padre árabe que nunca conoció. Contemplando las cartas escritas a mano y un viejo casette que llevaba las palabras de su padre, el cineasta viaja de París a la ciudad de Kuwait para emprender un viaje introspectivo que revela los rastros
del pasado errante de su padre y también un futuro incierto.

More than two decades after his father´s death, a European filmmaker attempts to construct a connection to the Arab father he never knew. While contemplating hand-written letters and an old audio casette that carry the words of his father, the filmmaker travels from Paris to Kuwait City to undertake an introspective journey that reveals traces of his father´s transient past and also an uncertain future.

KARIM GOURY
Tiene una Maestría en Bellas Artes de la Facultad Nacional de Arte de Cergy en Francia. Estudió dirección en la Facultad Nacional de Cine Louis Lumière y escritura en La Fémis en París. Su primera película, “Made in Egypt” (2006), un documental conmovedor y bien realizado, en el cual busca sus raíces egipcias, ganó el premio Gold Muhr en el 4 º Festival Internacional de Cine de Dubai. En 2007, Karim Goury dirigió el cortometraje de ficción “I'll Be Right Back, I'm Gonna Get Meet My Father”. En 2009, dirigió un nuevo documental para ARTE, titulado “Far Horizons” sobre la literatura egipcia, que incluía entrevistas a los escritores más importantes de Egipto que se encuentran en vida (Alaa El Aswani, Khaled El Khamissi, Gamal Ghitany, Sonallah Ibrahim, Ibrahim abd-el Maguid, etc.). Su nuevo proyecto “The Man Inside” fue desarrollado en el marco del programa de capacitación “Two Sides of the Coin “, organizado por Beirut DC. Recibió apoyo de la Comisión de Cine ORCCA (Francia), AFAC (Líbano), ENJAAZ (Dubai) y la embajada francesa en Kuwait.
Holds an MFA from Cergy National Art School in France. He studied directing at the Louis Lumière National School of Cinema and writing at La Fémis in Paris. His first film, “Made In Egypt” (2006), a well-shot and emotional documentary, in which he searches for his Egyptian roots, won the Gold Muhr Award in the 4th Dubai International Film Festival. In 2007, Karim Goury directed a short fiction movie “I’ll Be Right Back, I’m Gonna Get Meet My Father”. In 2009, he directed a new documentary for ARTE, titled “Far Horizons” about the egyptian litterature, including inteviews of the greatest living writers in Egypt (Alaa El Aswani, Khaled El Khamissi, Gamal Ghitany, Sonallah Ibrahim, Ibrahim abd-el Maguid, etc.). His new project “The Man Inside” was developed in the framework of "Two Sides of the Coin" training program, organized by Beirut DC. It has been supported by ORCCA Film Commission (France), AFAC (Lebanon), ENJAAZ (Dubai) and the French Embassy of Kuwait.
