Después de las revueltas de diciembre y de las primeras marchas pacífi cas, mientras la Primavera Árabe empieza en Túnez y Egipto, Fouzi quiere reunir a sus actores para mostrarles el montaje inacabado de la película que dirigió dos años antes sobre la desilusión de una juventud que anhela expresar sus ideas artísticas. Busca otro punto de vista y sobre todo un fi nal, y cuenta con las reacciones espontáneas de los comediantes para inventar una nueva resolución de su historia, en un país repentinamente sublevado por una ola de contestaciones.
Durante la proyección de la película, se instala el debate: ¿cuál es el lugar de la creación de Argelia hoy? ¿Cómo crear sin enfrentarse a la censura? ¿Cómo resistir? ¿Dirigiendo películas o encaminándose hacia una nueva revolución? Dos relatos se entrecruzan, ¿fi cción y realidad? ¿Debates y deambulaciones? Una nueva visión de la juventud argelina de hoy en pleno cuestionamiento político y artístico.

In the wake of the fi rst peaceful demonstrations and the riots that broke out in December, during the onset of the Arab Spring in Tunisia and Egypt, Fouzi reunited the old cast of the fi lm directed by him two years ago about the disappointment of a youth who yearned to express their artistic ideas to show them the unfi nished shooting of the scenes. Fouzi looks for another point of view and especially for an end, and relies on the spontaneous reactions of the comedians to make up a new solution to deal with the history of a country that is suddenly revolted by a wave of responses. The fi lm’s premiere stimulated debate over the following issues: what is the territory that belongs to the creation of Algeria today? How to create without facing censorship? How to resist, directing fi lms or heading for another revolution? Two stories intertwine, fi ction and reality? Debates and wanderings? A new vision of modern Algerian youth in full political and artistic controversy.

MERZAK ALLOUACHE, cineasta testigo de la Argelia contemporánea, guionista, novelista, Merzak Allouache nació en 1944. En 1964, empieza sus estudios de dirección de cine en el Instituto Nacional de Cine de Argel y los termina en Francia en el IDHEC del cual sale titulado en 1967. Tiene hechas numerosas películas. Revelado por Omar Gatlato (seleccionado en la semana de la Crítica de Cannes), alcanzó el éxito luego con Bab El Oued City (seleccionado en el festival de Locarno) y Chouchou (más de 4 millones de entradas en Francia). Harragas, su último largo metraje estrenado en sala en 2010, ha sido seleccionado para el Festival de Venecia, sección Venice Days, y premiado durante el Festival de Valencia en España, en el Festival de Dubaï.

MERZAK ALLOUACHE, one of modern Algeria’s leading directors, novelists and screenwriters, Merzak Allouache was born in Algeria in 1944. He is originally from Notre Dame d’Afrique, the traditional quarter of Algiers. Between 1964 and 1967 he made a cinematic education at the National institute of cinema in Algiers. In 1967 he received his certificate of direction at the IDHEC, the cinematic university of Paris. He has made numerous films. Revealed by Omar Gatlato (selected in the Critics' Week at Cannes), then achieved success with Bab El Oued City (selected at the Locarno Film Festival) and Chouchou (over 4 million tickets sold in France). Harragas, his latest feature film released in 2010, was selected for the Venice Film Festival, Venice Days section, and won many prizes during the Festival of Valencia in Spain and the Dubai Festival.
