HABIBI
Habibi, historia de un amor prohibido, es una ficci贸n representada en Gaza. Dos estudiantes de Cisjordania son forzados a retornar a su hogar en Gaza, donde su amor desaf铆a la tradici贸n. Para llegar a su amada, Qays pinta graffitis con poemas a lo largo de la ciudad. 鈥淗abibi鈥 es una versi贸n moderna de la antigua par谩bola suf铆 鈥淢ajnun Layla鈥. El t铆tulo completo en 谩rabe es Habibi Rasak Kharban, lo cual se traduce como 篓Querido, algo no funciona bien en tu cabeza鈥.
Habibi, a story of forbidden love, is a fi ction feature set in Gaza. Two students in the West Bank are forced to return home to Gaza, where their love defi es tradition. To reach his lover, Qays grafittis poetry across town. Habibi is a modern re-telling of the famous ancient Sufi parable Majnun Layla. The full Arabic title is Habibi Rasak Kharban, which translates as 鈥渄arling, something鈥檚 wrong with your head.鈥
SUSAN YOUSSEF naci贸 en Brooklyn, Nueva York. Es directora, guionista, productora y editora. Por su labor en 鈥淗abibi鈥, la revista Filmmaker la nombr贸 uno de los 鈥25 Nuevos Rostros" del cine independiente para el 2010. Antes de Habibi, Susan cre贸 cinco cortometrajes. Anim贸 y dirigi贸 el corto titulado 鈥淲est Fingerboard Road鈥. Su corto 鈥淢arjoun and the Flying Headscarf鈥 fue una de las primeras piezas de ficci贸n en los Estados Unidos con una protagonista Hijabi (cubierta con velo). 鈥淔orbidden to Wander鈥, un documental sobre su romance en la Franja de Gaza, se proyect贸, a pesar de las protestas, en el Museo de Arte Moderno de Nueva York en el a帽o 2005. Antes de dedicarse al cine, fue maestra y periodista en Beirut. Posee una Maestr铆a en Bellas Artes en la Universidad de Texas, donde fue galardonada con una beca presidencial. Se recibi贸 con honores de Licenciada en Artes en la Universidad de Virginia.
SUSAN YOUSSEF was born in Brooklyn, New York. She is director, writer, producer and editor. For her work on 鈥淗abibi鈥, Filmmaker magazine named her one of the 鈥25 New Faces鈥 to watch for in 2010. Prior to 鈥淗abibi鈥, Susan made five short films. Susan animated and directed the short 鈥淲est Fingerboard Road鈥. Her narrative short, 鈥淢arjoun and the Flying Headscarf鈥, was one of the first pieces of fiction in the U.S. to feature a hijabi (veiled) protagonist. 鈥淔orbidden to Wander鈥, a documentary about her romance in the Gaza Strip, screened at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2005 despite protests. Prior to filmmaking, she was a schoolteacher and journalist in Beirut. She has a Master in Fine Arts from the University of Texas, where she was a Presidential Scholar. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction from the University of Virginia.
